Boxscore

WORCESTER, Mass., October 28, 2006 – The Clark University women’s volleyball team fell to Springfield College in three games in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on 'Senior Day' this afternoon at Kneller Athletic Center. Game scores were 30-25, 30-13, and 30-18.

Clark drops to 12-12 and 4-5 in the conference. Ranked sixth in NCAA Division III New England, the Pride improves to 25-7 and 7-2 in the NEWMAC.

The opening game proved to be close throughout as Clark took a slim, 14-13 lead on a kill by Liz Magier. The Cougars later held a 23-20 advantage, but SC closed the gap and won, 30-25.

In game two, the Pride took a commanding 11-4 lead and never turned back, prevailing 30-13.

Trailing 14-7 in game three, Clark rallied with three straight service points by Emily Visone to close the deficit (14-10). SC extended its lead to 20-11, but the Cougars then picked up a pair of points by Sarah Hunsucker on a kill and a solo block to make it 20-13. Clark would get no closer, however, as the Pride pulled off the 30-18 victory.

Senior Margo Labadorf had 10 kills and 15 digs to lead Clark. Hunsucker added five kills, while Visone topped the team in digs with 20. Tiffany Ong finished with 13 assists and 10 digs.

SC senior libero Leah Hettrick (Meriden, Conn.) led the Pride with 16 digs. Senior middle blocker MaryKathryn O’Neil (Liverpool, N.Y.) and senior outside hitter Nicole Curtin (Beacon, N.Y.) contributed with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.

Prior to the match, seniors Larissa Christensen, Regat Gebrebrehan, Labadorf, and Ong were honored for playing in their final regular-season home match.

SC and Clark will meet once again on Tuesday evening, October 31st, in the first round of the 2006 NEWMAC Tournament at the Pride's Blake Arena. SC is the third-seeded team in the conference heading into tournament play, as the Cougars are the six-seed. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
