PLYMOUTH, N.H., October 15, 2005 - Springfield College freshman fullback Andrew Jackson (Pennsville, N.J.) rushed for 75 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns as the Pride netted 361 yards on the ground to defeat non-conference opponent, Plymouth State University, 33-13, this afternoon (Oct. 15) at Plymouth's Currier Field.
Jackson, who was named this past week's Empire 8 Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his four-touchdown performance against West Conn., had another solid week for the 2-4 Pride, as the freshman scored SC's first two touchdowns of the game. The fullback put the Pride up 7-0 in the opening quarter with an eight-yard rush, and then with 8:25 left in the opening half, Jackson capped a 12 play, 69-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown.
Junior halfback Timothy Brouillard (Plymouth, Mass.) rushed for a career-best 128 yards on 17 carries to lead the Pride rushing game. Brouillard averaged 7.5 yards-per-carry including a game-long scramble of 29 yards as SC dominated the Panthers with a net total of 380 offensive yards to Plymouth's 165.
The Pride defense, led by junior lineback Andrew Madigan (New Britain, Conn.), stopped the Plymouth offense throughout the entire game, as the Panthers gained just 55 yards of rushing offense. The co-captain, Madigan, recorded a team-best seven tackles on the day (six solo) including one tackle for a loss (three yards) and a fumble recovery.
The SC defense intercepted two passes in the game as well, as junior defensive back Kevin Fessette (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) picked off a pass for five yards to go along with one pass break-up, and junior Dwight Hazelwood (Bayonne, N.J.) recorded an interception.
The Pride improves to 2-4 overall on the season as it remains 0-2 in Empire 8 Conference play. SC will next play two crucial conference contests in the upcoming weeks, first hosting St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon, October 22, in a 1:30 p.m. kickoff, and then hosting Ithaca College during the Pride's homecoming weekend on Saturday afternoon, October 29, beginning at noon.
