WELLESLEY, Mass., April 1, 2006 – Springfield College junior forward Heide Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) led all players with four goals as the Pride defeated New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe, Wellesley College, 16-9, this afternoon.
With the win, SC improves to 4-3 overall and a perfect 2-0 in NEWMAC play, as the Blue falls to 4-5 overall in its NEWMAC-opener.
Senior tri-captain Katie Moseley gave Wellesley a 1-0 lead, scoring off a free position shot five minutes into the contest. The Pride answered back with a 6-0 run, however, and with three first-half goals from Eidse and two tallies apiece from forwards Heather Dobson (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.), SC built an 11-2 lead going into the break.
In the second half, keyed by a pair of tallies from three Wellesley players, in Moseley, Amber Evans and Maxine Brownstein, the Blue scored seven goals to the Pride's five second half scores. Despite Wellesley’s late surge, SC held on to beat Wellesley by the final of 16-9.
Eidse led the Pride with four tallies in the victory. Junior midfielder Lisa Thomas (Whitman, Mass.) netted three goals, as Dobson and Martell each helped out with two goals apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Vaccaro (Southington, Conn.) made 15 stops for the Pride, playing all 60 minutes and recording her first win of the season.
SC will next travel to Williams College for a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon, April 5, in a 4:15 p.m. start.
