Jackson Named E8 Offensive Player of the Week; Madigan Named Co-Defensive Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., – September 18, 2006 – Andrew Jackson and Andrew Madigan were very instrumental in leading the Springfield College football team to a 27-15 non-conference victory over Montclair State University last Saturday afternoon at SC’s Benedum Field.

As a result, both were honored for their performances by the Empire 8 Conference.

Jackson, a sophomore fullback from Pennsville, N.J., was named the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week. He ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries. His first TD of three yards put SC ahead 7-6 early in the second quarter. His second touchdown of 14 yards with just 12 seconds left in the third quarter put the Pride ahead for good at 20-15.

This was the second straight week that Springfield had garnered Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week laurels. Last week, it was junior quarterback Chris Sharpe (Derry, N.H.) who turned the trick. Sharpe had rushed for a school record-tying 268 yards and four TDs, while passing for 107 yards and two more scores in the 38-30 upset victory over then-ranked #11 Union College.

Madigan, a senior inside linebacker from New Britain, Conn., had a stellar game on defense against the Red Hawks of Montclair State, and was thus named Empire 8 Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Madigan was credited with 10 tackles (five solo), including two tackles-for-loss (six yards) to go along with one sack for five yards. It was also learned that Madigan has been honored as this week's ECAC Division III Northwest Defensive Player of the Week.
