Hill To Speak On Social Work In Action At SC School Of Social Work

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 2, 2004 – Celebrating Social Work Month, the Springfield College School of Social Work will present a lecture by Anthony C. Hill, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., on “Transforming the Lives of All Children: Social Work in Action in Public Education” on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the college’s Brennan Center, 45 Island Pond Road, Springfield.

Hill, who is principal of Liberty Street Elementary School in Springfield, will discuss how professionals in social work and education work together with children. Hill is a graduate of Springfield College, where he earned a certificate of advanced study. He received his master of social work degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a field supervisor for the Springfield College School of Social Work.

Social workers attending the program will qualify for 1.5 continuing education units. Cosponsors of the event are the National Association of Social Workers Massachusetts and Connecticut chapters and also Valley Psychiatric Services of Springfield and Worcester, Mass. The lecture will be open to the public free of charge. Off-street parking will be available and refreshments will be served.

The Springfield College School of Social Work offers master’s degree programs that can be completed part-time in three years with weekend classes, or full-time in two years on weekdays. An advanced standing master of social work program is available to qualified graduates of bachelor of social work programs that are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

In conjunction with Western New England College School of Law, the school also offers a combined master of social work/juris doctorate four-year program. Additionally, for persons with master's degrees in social work, nursing, school counseling, mental health and other fields, a post-master's certificate program in advanced social work practice with children and adolescents is available with classes on 15 Thursday evenings each in spring and fall for 90 continuing education units.
