Brennan Center Renovations Have StartedPosted July 9, 2012
A 4,000 square foot renovation project has started this summer at the Brennan Center, home of the Springfield College School of Social Work (SSW). The renovation will feature three technologically enhanced classrooms, and four new faculty offices before the start of the fall semester.
“We are looking forward to the new academic year and to the completion of the state-of-the-art renovation that is underway this summer,” said Dean of the School of Social Work Francine Vecchiolla.
The expansion of the Brennan Center coexists with a 19 percent increase in student enrollment in the SSW over the last five years. The Brennan Center, which has been home to the School since 2002, features a computer lab, a tiered auditorium, and a light-filled atrium that hosts school events and serves as a student lounge.
The SSW offers multiple programs for students including a full-time, two-year, weekday master of social work program in Springfield; a part-time, three-year, weekend master of social work program in Springfield and Worcester; and a concentration in advanced generalist practice. There are also options for graduates of Council on Social Work Education-accredited bachelor of social work programs to choose either a four-semester weekend or three-semester weekday advanced standing program. Students can work toward a post-master’s certificate in advanced practice with children and adolescents. The School enrolls approximately 300 graduate social work students in full-time and part-time programs.
The SSW offers a wide variety of internship opportunities throughout New England and New York. The field education program is structured around four areas of learning to ensure that students gain experience in developing a full range of advanced generalist social work skills.
“We appreciate the timeliness of the renovation given enrollment demands,” said Vecchiolla. “We are grateful to President Richard B. Flynn and his team for their leadership in enhancing the Brennan Center facility.”
The School is proud to be part of the Springfield College mission to educate students in spirit, mind, and body, for leadership in service to humanity by building upon a foundation of Humanics and academic excellence.
