Springfield College

humanics in action

alumni relations home
Every year since 1998, the College cancels classes and operates offices with skeleton staffs for one day to free students, faculty, and staff to work on community service projects. During this effort, called Humanics in Action Day, participants engage in such projects as:
  • cleaning and painting in playgrounds, churches and neighborhood lots
  • conducting educational projects in elementary schools
  • entertaining residents of senior citizen housing
  • performing a variety of indoor and outdoor services.
Alumni Get Involved
In 2003, alumni furthered the tradition by bringing Humanics in Action Day to their local communities when a number of regional alumni associations coordinated volunteer efforts on the weekends surrounding the on-campus event. Some of the projects undertaken by alumni miles away included:
  • cleaning beaches
  • sprucing up a women’s shelter
  • helping build a home with Habitat for Humanity
  • joining a SIDS walk
  • helping out at a shelter for the homeless
Humanics in Action Day serves as a demonstration of the College’s guiding philosophy that emphasizes education of the whole person--in spirit, mind, and body--for leadership in service to humanity. If you are interested in bringing Humanics in Action Day 2004 to your community through your local alumni association, please contact the Office of Alumni Relations at (413) 748-3161 or e-mail us at alumni@spfldcol.edu. Please see below all the confirmed Humanics dates and places:

Humanics in Action Day in Your Area!

Join fellow Springfield College alums for a few hours of fun and hard work for a good cause. Each of our regional alumni association volunteers will be participating in a project to assist a local community organization in their area. Be it a YMCA, a Boys and Girls Club, a local Soup Kitchen, a Community Center, a Distance Run or Walk, or a host of other worthwhile community service projects, we can use your help! All participants will receive a free Springfield College Humanics in Action tee shirt for their efforts on behalf of the College. So we ask that you please consider volunteering for one of these great annual events in your area. Thank you!!!
