Springfield College Child Development Center Receives National Accreditation

March 12, 2009

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., , March 12, 2009 – The Springfield College Child Development Center has received five-year accreditation under the newly increased standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Responding to the announcement, Maureen Burke, director of the center, said, “For parents choosing a daytime program for their preschool-aged children, NAEYC accreditation is the national standard for judging quality. It attests to the excellence of the child development program, health and safety of the environment, and professionalism of the staff. We’re proud to have earned this recognition.”

Open to the community, the Springfield College Child Development Center fosters physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children aged 15 months to five years. The teachers have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and are assisted by Springfield College students of early childhood education or a related field.

The center is located at 715 Wilbraham Road in a natural setting at the edge of Springfield College’s 52-acre East Campus. Its program encourages learning through activities that pique children’s natural curiosity and develop their competency, perception and self esteem.

NAEYC, founded in 1926, is the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children with particular focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for children from birth through age 8. It has almost 100,000 members, a national network of more than 300 local, state, and regional affiliates, and a growing global alliance of like-minded organizations. Enrollment information and tours of the center are available by calling 788-2451.
