Free Fitness and Health Tests and Information at Springfield College Annual Fit FestFebruary 18, 2011
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Feb. 18, 2011 -- Get a free chair massage or personal fitness assessment; have your blood pressure and glucose levels checked; have your skin analyzed for sun damage and your percentage of body fat measured; test your muscular endurance and learn how you compare with other people; learn how to use a rowing machine for muscular and cardio-vascular exercise; see cooking demonstrations on the differences among olive oils; and much more at the Springfield College Fit Fest Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Springfield College Field House. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
More than 20 exhibits and activities by Springfield College groups and area businesses and organizations will address how to achieve personal wellness. Informational exhibits will address local resources for healthful leisure time; suicide warning signs and prevention; HIV prevention; adapted exercise equipment for special populations; stress relief; a whole foods, herbal and probiotic approach to health; and more.
Spectators will be able to view Springfield College students competing for the titles of King Fit or Queen Fitness through tests of power, strength, speed and agility. There will be raffles, healthy snacks and free tee-shirts.
The American Red Cross Blood Services will conduct blood donations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Union West of Judd Gymnasia on the campus.
Students and faculty members in health, education and other fields of study and campus clubs have designed the day in conjunction with the college’s longstanding emphasis on exercise and fitness and its commitment to personal wellness.
Other exhibitors are the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Planned Parenthood, TEAM Rehab and Wellness Center, New North Citizen Council, Better Life Whole Foods, ARAMARK and Branford Hall Career Institute.
The Springfield College Fit Fest coincides with National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day, an annual event of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association.
