WMECo Rebate

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield College partnered with Western Mass Electric Company (WMECo) and Columbia Gas in energy conservation projects that earned the College more than $100,000 in combined rebates.

Starting with the replacement of over 500 light fixtures throughout the main campus with new efficient fluorescent lighting, the College was able to save over 118,000 kilowatt hours and net a rebate of over $62,000 from WMECo.

Additionally, the College replaced boilers and reinsulated steam piping in several academic and residence hall buildings. There also was a retro commissioning project accomplished in many campus buildings that provided better control of heating and air conditioning systems. All three energy conservation projects helped the College earn a rebate of over $45,000 from Columbia Gas.

This undertaking is another phase of the partnership between Springfield College, WMECo, and Columbia Gas, which began when the two utility companies helped fund a campus-wide energy survey. This study provides the College with a plan of attainable energy reducing opportunities that are eligible for incentive rebates.
