Springfield College Honors Erland Construction, Inc. At Board Of Trustees MeetingPosted October 12, 2012
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield College recently honored Erland Construction, Inc. during its October Board of Trustees meeting in recognition of the company’s fulfillment of multiple building and renovation projects at the College.
Representing Erland Construction, Inc. were President Steve McDonald; Senior Vice President Tom Blesso; Project Superintendent Dan James; Project Manager Brendan Boyle; Assistant Superintendent Keith Melanson; and Project Superintendent Jack Hanley.
“We are extremely pleased with the exceptional working relationship we have had with Erland over the years resulting in several state-of-the-art facilities,” said Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn. “Of special note was Erland’s cooperative spirit and responsiveness when the College was struck by the tornado that ravaged western Massachusetts on June 1, 2011. Erland’s staff was on campus within 24 hours, and within the week they had begun work to repair and restore damaged facilities. Renovations to three of our residence halls - International, Reed, and Massasoit - were extensive, yet all were ready for occupancy for the fall semester. They were unbelievably helpful. To this day, people are amazed at what was accomplished in such a short time, and the final results were outstanding.”
The partnership between Springfield College and Erland Construction, Inc. began in 2008 with the building of the Field House, Wellness Center and Athletic Training/Exercise Science Facility.
· The Field House, 93,820 square feet, features a six-lane running track, four multipurpose courts, each with the ability to be closed off by a netting system, locker rooms, strength and conditioning facilities, storage, concessions, and restrooms. · The Wellness Center, 47,840 square feet, offers cardio and weight training space, a climbing wall, four multipurpose teaching/activity spaces, and a faculty office complex. · The Athletic Training/Exercise Science Facility, two-story 18,900 square feet, provides students and faculty with interactive and experiential learning environments.
In 2010, Erland Construction, Inc. assisted with the construction of the Richard B. Flynn Campus Union and the company renovated the oldest building at the College, Judd Gymnasia.
· The Richard B. Flynn Campus Union, 65,788 square feet, was named in honor of the 12th president of the College. The campus union features a food court with a two-story atrium for casual dining, sports bistro with large flat-screen televisions, and the spiritual life center with a meditation room. · Judd Gymnasia, 37, 256 square feet, currently houses the Stitzer YMCA Center, which includes the Springfield College Office of YMCA Relations, YMCA Hall of Fame, offices of the Association of YMCA Professionals, YMCA Club room, and YMCA multipurpose room.
“Erland Construction has been a strong partner of the College and they have done a great job on all of their projects on campus,” said Springfield College Vice President of Administration and Finance John Mailhot. “They have been very dependable and they are willing to go the extra mile to make sure all projects meet expectations. We truly appreciate their efforts and assistance in providing Springfield College with some of the best designed facilities in the country.”
