Springfield College is proud to once again host the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2020 Spalding Hoophall Classic presented by Eastbay. The event will take place in Blake Arena from Thursday, Jan. 16, through Monday, Jan. 20. This annual event celebrates the sport of basketball that was invented at Springfield College by Dr. James Naismith in 1891.

Saturday and Monday Sessions are currently sold out! - For more information about the tournament or about tickets for the general public for Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, click here.

The event serves as a tremendous onsite academic experience for the College’s SMRT 116 Event Management classes and provides hands-on leadership/management experience for the members of the College’s Sport Management Club. Communications/Sports Journalism students also gain valuable experience covering the event for print media throughout the country.

The tournament continues to be one of the premier high school basketball events nationwide. We will welcome 50 teams and more than 8,000 visitors to campus throughout the weekend. The College enters the national stage again this year as many of the games will be televised on ESPN, ESPN+, and ESPNU.

All five of the top seniors on ESPN’s Top 100 are slated to play, including Evan Mobley (Rancho Christian), Cade Cunningham (Montverde), Jalen Green (Prolific Prep), Jalen Johnson (IMG Academy) and Ziaire Williams (Sierra Canyon). Jonathan Kuminga, the top player in the junior class, will play as well. Sierra Canyon’s presence at the 2020 Hoophall Classic means one of the most famous players in high-school basketball will take part: Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. Sierra Canyon plays twice, once on Saturday, Jan. 18 and again on Monday, Jan. 20.

Women’s basketball takes center court all day Friday, Jan. 17 with four games scheduled. Highlights include 2019 Division I state champion runner-up Springfield Central High School taking on Division I state champion final four finalist Central Catholic High School. Also on Friday’s schedule, 2019 Division II state tournament qualifiers Taconic and Longmeadow will be featured, along with 2019 Division III state champion Hoosac Valley.
