Springfield College is currently accepting applications for a tenure track, nine month faculty appointment in the Education Department.
Teaching responsibilities will include courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, covering topics such as literacy across the curriculum, foundations of teaching reading, pedagogical strategies for teaching ELLs, culturally responsive curriculum development, introduction to education, contemporary topics in education, engaging families and communities, multicultural education, and fostering culturally responsive pedagogy. In addition, the successful candidate will supervise early childhood and elementary pre-practicum and practicum teachers and develop protocols for faculty learning walks in local school settings.
Required: Doctorate in Education. Teacher licensure/certification, a minimum of five years of PreK-12 school teaching experience, including experience as a reading specialist and minimum of five years college/university teaching, including experience supervising student teachers. Experience with literacy development for the struggling reader and U.S. schools qualifying for Title I services is valued; also experience assisting middle and high school mathematics and special education teachers develop literacy rich classrooms. We seek a faculty member experienced in developing culturally responsive curricula and fostering cultural competence in beginning teachers, including use of pre- and post-assessments to assess cultural competence.
