Springfield College is seeking applications for the position of Health Educator. The Health Educator reports to the Director of Campus Recreation and is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing health education activities on campus in conjunction with Student Affairs.
This position designs, establishes and maintains effective health education programs & services which promote well informed, healthy lifestyle choices, seeks to improve students’ productivity and enhances their opportunity for achieving their academic, career and personal goals.
Duties include but are not limited to: Plan, implement, and execute health education programs in the residence halls. Conduct health risk assessments using tools to identify factors which negatively affect the academic performance of students. Teach classes in health & wellness for HPER on a semester basis. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student assistants and Peer Educators. Work directly with employee wellness programs and advisory board. Work collaboratively as a team with health services, counseling center, and public safety to develop program plans on a semester basis. Develop relationships with community agencies and identifies opportunities for collaboration in health promotion activities. Participate in programs such as New Student Orientation and other college collaborative programs. Market programs and services through established avenues. Perform other duties and required/ requested by supervisor.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, (Master's degree preferred) in Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Health or closely related field; with a minimum of 2 years demonstrated experience of providing leadership and managing health education programs and services in a higher education setting or related setting. Experience in developing, implementing & evaluating outcome driven health education preferred. Knowledge of college health issues, risk behaviors of young adults affecting academic success and public health issues. Knowledge of outcome driven health promotion strategies and population based health education methods. Ability to design, develop and implement wellness education programs and services applying population based education strategies; evaluate health education initiatives using outcomes based learning. Knowledge and skill in designing educational materials using web-based and multi-media strategies. Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty and community agencies. Skill in selecting, training, supervising and evaluating student employees and Peer Educators.
